Catclaw
Senegalia greggii · Acacia greggii · wait-a-minute bush
A hooked-thorn wash shrub that hosts desert mistletoe — and will snag a sleeve if you push through.

Catclaw lines washes with smoke tree and mesquite. The recurved thorns are the name. Phainopeplas use the mistletoe that grows on it, so stripping every clump from a wild wash tree removes a pantry. Give it space on a trail. Wikipedia and Calflora have the names (it used to be Acacia greggii).
